Uncontrolled hypertension is a situation whereby high blood pressure of the body is left untreated or uncontrolled (140/90 mm Hg or above). Researches have shown that more than 75 percent of patients with hypertension in the United States of America do not take the necessary steps to control their blood pressure. Hypertension if not controlled or treated properly poses more danger than most people know. This explains why every hypertensive patient should keep a watchful eyes on his or her medical check up so as not to allow the situation degenerate to a point it will be regarded as uncontrolled.
Hypertension that is not properly controlled is caused majorly by few factors such as inadequate medication and non compliance to medical prescription and therapy. The issue of insufficient medication as it relates to untreated hypertension is as a result of high cost of medication for hypertension and fear of side effects that may follow such medication on hypertensive patients. Other factors that can lead to uncontrolled hypertension are poverty and ignorance.
The intake of alcohol in excesses, overlooked overweight, taking the wrong anti hypertensive medicine and the wrong combination of drugs can also make an ordinary hypertension degenerate to a state of uncontrolled hypertension. If high blood pressure must be normalized, these factors need to be drastically checked.
Effects of Uncontrolled Hypertension:
* It can lead to the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
* Recent findings indicate that uncontrolled hypertension exposes the hypertensive patient to a greater chances for mental processes like awareness, perception, reasoning, memory and speech which are all controlled by the brain than normal blood pressure can do.
* A good number of old hypertensive patients with untreated hypertension will also experience a decline in the cognitive functions stipulated above due to the key fact that hypertension tends to pose more resistance among old people.
* Uncontrolled hypertension can also worsen the risk of vascular dementia.
Untreated hypertension is even dangerous than the well known high blood pressure, in that it can lead to such other killer conditions like stroke and other heart problems.
